Dragon Ball Daima : First Impressions

Dragon Ball Daima is off to a fantastic start, captivating fans with its stunning animation, which draws heavily on the nostalgic art style of Dragon Ball Z. The visual direction feels like a love letter to the earlier eras, with some reanimated scenes that evoke a strong sense of passion and dedication from the team behind the project.

The first episode focuses on establishing the villains and setting the stage for the rest of the show. The new villain’s plan to use the Dragon Balls to revert Goku and his friends back to children in order to neutralize them feels reminiscent of the plotline from Dragon Ball GT. However, this concept has been done before in the Dragon Ball universe, and it isn’t surprising given Akira Toriyama’s history of making non-canon ideas official, as seen with Broly’s introduction in Dragon Ball Super.

What makes Daima stand out is its clear return to the essence of the original Dragon Ball. With Goku back in his child form and embarking on a new adventure alongside familiar faces, the show is poised to revisit the playful, journey-driven storytelling that long-time fans adored. It brings back that sense of wonder and camaraderie from the early days, while still maintaining the high-stakes action Dragon Ball is known for.

The fact that this is the last project Akira Toriyama worked on before his passing adds an emotional weight to the series. Fans can expect new episodes every Friday, making Dragon Ball Daima a weekly treat for anime lovers and long-time Dragon Ball fans alike.
